Southern Sichuan Bamboo Sea, formerly called Wanlingqing, is located at the junction of Changning County and Jiang’an County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province, and at the transition zone between the southern edge of Sichuan Basin and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The history of this bamboo sea can be traced back to ancient times. As early as the Eastern Han Dynasty, the local ancestors had a popular worship of bamboo totems, and bamboo culture has a long history here, with a history of more than 2000 years. In history, the Bamboo Sea in southern Sichuan has become a popular destination for literati and scholars due to its unique geographical location and abundant bamboo resources, leaving behind numerous popular poems and legends.

The Shunan Bamboo Sea spans Changning and Jiang’an counties, with a total area of 120 square kilometers and a central scenic area of approximately 44 square kilometers. The mountains here stretch and undulate, with elevations mostly ranging from 260 to 1000 meters. The climate is mild and humid, with an average annual temperature between 14.5 ℃ and 21 ℃. The annual precipitation is abundant, making it very suitable for the growth of bamboo. There are nearly 70000 acres of bamboo forests growing in the scenic area, with a coverage rate of up to 87%, forming the most spectacular bamboo sea landscape in China and even the world.
